Welcome to Doom Pile! Whether you’ve stumbled upon this game while exploring the internet, or were led here by friends or rivals trying to get you into the game, you’ve come to the right place. This article will go over five simple tips to help you get started playing and improving at the Doom Pile Collectible Card Game.

  1. Get a Structure Deck

Structure Decks are the one and only way to start playing the game. They come with a Master Plan and complete 30 card deck that’s stacked with a decent strategy. They’re not perfect, but they create a good foundation for getting used to the mechanics and the way you think about how cards interact over multiple turns.

There are six possible starter decks, each with a different Master Plan and strategy focusing on a particular mechanic, such as playing Plots, sacrificing Minions, or activating effects. You won’t know which deck you’re opening when you buy it, so we recommend trying out whatever you do happen to pull, learning its ins and outs, and get really used to how it feels, rather than try to learn every deck and then pick the best one.

  1. Read the Rulebook

No matter what Structure Deck you open, you’ll get a booklet in the box that explains the rules, from what each card type means, to how cards get placed on the field, and the order of each turn. Even if you follow other tips on this list, you should not skimp on a little light reading here, as it may save you from missing a key mechanic and learn later that you’ve been playing incorrectly all along!

  1. Watch How-To Videos

Our website has a Quick Start Guide video that introduces the different card types, the different zones on the field, and the normal turn structure. It’s no replacement for the Rulebook, but if you’re looking to play right out of the box, this is a good way to get started.

There may also be other videos and articles available here or on other platforms like YouTube to introduce you to the specific deck you opened, so feel free to go exploring, too!

  1. Play by Yourself

Even though Doom Pile is a competitive game, you can learn a lot and improve your skills by playing by yourself. When you finish your first turn, pretend you have no opponent and go straight to the start of your next turn. This is especially helpful if you’re trying out a new strategy or order for your structure deck, or have combined cards from multiple structure decks to create your own constructed deck. Going through these motions will help you get an idea of how fast your deck can win when things go perfectly, and what you need to keep an eye on protecting to ensure a smooth victory.

  1. Ask Questions

We have an active Discord server for you to seek guidance. Don’t understand a certain rule or effect? Want a better explanation of how a card is supposed to work? This is the place to get that assistance!
